Energy Efficient Lighting Upgrade for Ireland West Airport

Energy Efficient Lighting Upgrade for Ireland West Airport

Ireland West Airport, Knock served 772,000 passengers in 2018, making it Ireland's fourth busiest airport. Lighting is an important consideration for any transport hub, so when the airport elected to take advantage of the SEAI's SME Lighting Support Scheme to deploy energy efficient LED lighting solutions, CT Electric Castlebar was on hand to supply the appropriate LED fittings. Selected products included LUG PowerLUG floodlights, LUG Cruiser Highbays, LUG Urbino, Rexel LED Panels and Disano ECHO Corrosion Proof.

In all 1,103 light fittings were upgraded, with grant aid of €38,000 from SEAI, with the potential to deliver a 30% reduction in the airport's lighting energy usage.

As one of the biggest airports in the country and with over 1 million people passing through the airport annually, we are conscious of the role the airport plays in supporting the environment and our energy consumption is an important aspect of this. We were delighted to partner with SEAI in a major upgrade and refitting of all our existing lighting across the airport facility to LED, which will lead to a 30% reduction in the airport’s annual energy usage. Furthermore the airport are committed to pursuing initiatives for further energy savings and environmentally friendly measures into the future. -- John Duggan, Property Manager, Ireland West Airport.
